Choosing a Siding Series: 1000, 1500, 2000 and 4000 Compared
In any vinyl siding series comparison, the useful question is what each step up actually adds. Moving from our 1000 Series to the 1500 Series opens up an expanded color palette. The 2000 Series brings the most extensive style range, a choice of wood grain or smooth texture, and stronger holding power against the wall.
The 4000 Series, our flagship, adds a heavy-duty panel with a robust anchoring system for extreme-force winds, the widest range of standard and architectural colors, and optional contoured insulation.
Instead of profiling each series on its own, this guide follows the ladder one step at a time. That way you can see exactly what you gain at each rung and decide how far up your home in southern New Jersey needs to go.
Where the Ladder Starts: The 1000 Series
The 1000 Series sets the baseline, and it's a solid one. You get the look of wood with a subtle low-gloss cedar grain texture, an advanced locking system that helps it hold up to strong winds, and exceptional value.
Some qualities stay the same across all four series in our siding lineup. Every series is Made in USA and carries the Good Housekeeping Seal. Every panel resists cracking and impacts, stays rigid and flat with a tighter fit, and virtually hides nicks and minor surface scratches.
Siding also carries its own warranty coverage, separate from the coverage on windows and patio doors, with the terms listed on our warranties page. Because the baseline already covers the essentials, each step up adds something to a product that works well on its own.
Step One: From the 1000 Series to the 1500 Series
The main thing you gain here is color. The 1500 Series pairs exceptional durability with a broad range of style options and an expanded color palette.
This step makes sense when you have a specific shade in mind, want to coordinate siding with new trim or a front door, or simply want your home to stand apart from the others on the street. If the classic colors in the 1000 Series already suit your plans, this step is optional.
Step Two: From the 1500 Series to the 2000 Series
The 2000 Series is where two things change at once: how the siding looks and how firmly it holds.
On the look side, you get the most extensive style range of any series, a choice between wood grain and smooth texture, and a variety of colors with matching accessories to tie the exterior together. It's also the only series of the four with a smooth option, so if a clean, painted-look finish is what you want, the 2000 Series is where to look.
On the performance side, the advanced locking system delivers superior holding power, helped by a double-thick nailing hem and exceptional wall-gripping. The nailing hem is the strip along the top of each panel where it's fastened to the wall, and a thicker hem gives the fastener more material to hold.
If your home catches steady breezes, our guide to South Jersey siding explains why that hold matters near the coast.
Step Three: From the 2000 Series to the 4000 Series
The 4000 Series is our most durable vinyl siding. Its heavy-duty panel uses a robust anchoring system to stay firmly in place through extreme-force winds, and its sturdy construction stands up to cracking and impacts.
Color takes another step forward too, with the widest range of standard and architectural colors in the lineup, finished in a wood grain texture. The 4000 Series also offers optional contoured insulation. Because it's optional, you decide whether it belongs in your project, and your Design Consultant can talk through what it would mean for your walls.
This is the step for homes that take the full force of coastal storms, and for homeowners who want the deepest color selection available.
Vinyl Siding Series Comparison at a Glance
Here’s what each step up adds, side by side.
| Step Up | What You Gain | Worth It If |
| 1000 to 1500 Series | Expanded color palette and a broad range of style options | Color is a top priority for your project |
| 1500 to 2000 Series | Most extensive style range, wood grain or smooth texture, superior holding power, double-thick nailing hem, exceptional wall-gripping | You want a smooth finish, a specific style, or a firmer hold in the wind |
| 2000 to 4000 Series | Heavy-duty panel, robust anchoring for extreme-force winds, widest range of standard and architectural colors, optional contoured insulation | Your home is highly exposed, or you want the fullest color selection |
Each row builds on the one above it. The question is simply where your list of must-haves runs out.
How Far Up the Ladder Should You Go?
The simplest rule is to stop at the first series that covers everything your home needs. Going higher than that adds features you may not use, and stopping lower means giving up something that matters to you.
A few examples show how that plays out. A homeowner who loves the classic wood look and wants to keep the budget tight may be happy at the 1000 Series. Someone set on a smooth finish will want to go at least as far as the 2000 Series, since that's where the smooth option lives. A house on an open lot near the water, or one where architectural colors are the goal, points toward the 4000 Series.
